Start-Up of the Year

This is an annual competition promoted by the PNI Cube Association for young and dynamic innovative companies born from public research, hosted or linked with cooperation relationship with Italian universities or incubators.
Start-Up of the Year, now at its third edition, gives a prize of 10.000 Euros and the chance for young companies to promote their product and their technology to a wide panel of investors and public.
The parameters for the evaluation are both qualitative and quantitative: the winner will be chosen through the analysis of key financials to appreciate the goals reached and in terms of value of production and number of employees. 
 
The competition

Who can participate
The competition "Start up of the year" is open to companies born in 2005 belonging to one of the following categories:
   1. Start up that participated to one of the business plan competition associated to PNI
   2. Start up that used the services of one of the incubator partner
   3. University Spin off, that is a start up founded by a researcher of one of the university partner with the support or the approval of the university itself

The selection process
The process for selection and evaluation of companies is made by a Jury nominated each year by the Association and composed by venture capitalists and entrepreneurs that considers quantitative and qualitative parameters.  
Among the submission which arrive on time, the jury will identify the 12 finalists who will be invited during the workshop to present their companies: at the end of this elevator pitch, the jury will nominate the winner.

The final event of the Start-Up of the Year Competition was the 8th May 2009, within the Innovation and Research Forum organized by the University of Padova, founder and partner of the PNI Cube Association. This is the third edition of the prize, after the experience of Torino 2007 and Perugia 2008.
This year, the best start up will be chosen and awarded during the workshop after the presentation of the 12 finalists to the jury.
The 2009 winner is Electro Power Systems from the Incubator I3P of Torino.
